Essay on Ethical and Historical Analysis of Capital...

Capital Punishment â€Å"[dates] as far back as the Eighteenth Century B.C. in the Code of King Hammaurabi of Babylon, which codified [Capital Punishment] for 25 different crimes,† so it is no surprise that it is still used today (â€Å"Early Death†¦Ã¢â‚¬ 1). In the U.S, Capital Punishment has been legalized in 32 states since 1996. Capital Punishment is not as inhumane as it sounds; it is limited under the 8th amendment in the U.S. Contrary to most beliefs, Capital Punishment is not used on every case of rapists, molesters, or murders, only in cases when necessary. In most states, capital punishment is only used for certain crimes. For example, â€Å"Michigan became the first state to abolish the death penalty for all crimes except treason† (â€Å"Early Death†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Ã¢â‚¬ ¦show more content†¦However, opponents must address the facts that states are carrying out the death penalty in the most humanitarian way possible. In the constitution, ‘crue l and unusual’ capital punishment defines the acts of â€Å"disemboweling, beheading, quartering, dissecting, and burning alive [those who are found guilty of capital punishment], all of which share the deliberate infliction of pain for the sake of pain† (â€Å"BAZE vs. REES† 1). On the other hand, thirty of the thirty-six states that have legalized capital punishment carry out capital punishment through lethal injection. The injection consists of a combination of three drugs: The first, sodium thiopental, induces unconsciousness when given in the specified amounts and thereby ensures that the prisoner does not experience any pain associated with the paralysis and cardiac arrest caused by the second and third drugs, pancuronium bromide and potassium chloride†¦(â€Å"BAZE vs REES† 1). Thus, those who are encumbered with capital punishment are endowed the least ghastly way to die possible. Further, proponents of capital punishment believe that it is necessary to use capital punishment in a free world. Once the murderer has committed the gruesome act, â€Å"the murderer [should lose] precisely the right of which he has deprived another humanShow MoreRelatedCapital Punishment : An Effective Tool1493 Words   |  6 PagesCapital punishment has been a subject of public debate, since the time the practice of the death penalty was implemented into the legal system. It is not applicable for some skin problems. Also, this only uses common and easy to find ingredients. Since some people can have allergic reactions to this, the researcher suggests to use it at your discretions. Chapter II REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE Calamansi (Citrofortunella microcarpa) Calamansi, Philippine lime – this versatile citrus fruit is the secret ingredient to many mouthwatering Filipino delicacies such as pancit palabok, Leyte kinilaw, beefsteak Tagalog, and arroz caldo. One of the most basic Filipino dipping sauces is made with soy sauce and calamansi juice, called toyomansi; and a simple, yet flavorful marinade is a blend of soy sauce, calamansi juice, vinegar, pepper, and garlic. While many growers see the calamansi as tiny decorative oranges and mostly ornamental, they are finding that the trees are problem free and easy to cultivate both indoors and out. They thrive inside the house in containers, as well as planted in the ground in tropical areas and zones with only occasional mild frosts. Calamansi is the result of a rare natural cross between two closely related genera, the Citrus and the Fortunella, and carries the characteristics of both the parents. The Fortunella parent, Kumquat, lends a dense shrubby habitat, small leaves and a hardy constitution, whereas the Citrus reticulata, Mandarin Orange, lends thorns, tasty fruit and ease of peeling. So the Calamansi has small, easy to peel fruit with the sour acid flavor. In Central Florida, calamansi trees yield abundant fruit throughout the year. When the trees are covered in blossoms, they emit an intoxicatingly sweet beautiful fragrance that carries with the breeze. Many of my neighbors and co-workers have been introduced with baskets of this sour, thin skinned citrus, learning how to make a refreshing drink that tastes much like lemonade: squeeze and strain the juice of several calamansi, add cold water, and sugar or honey to taste. It’s a superb source of vitamin C and has a light, yet unique flavor equivalent to freshly made lemonade with a tangerine essence. The fruits can be used just like you would limes, key limes, or lemons. So even if you don’t know how to cook any Filipino dishes, you can use to marinade and baste grilled chicken, pork, and seafood, or squeeze into your iced tea, cola, or rum. The calamansi fruit also has several medicinal uses. It can be a good treatment to itchy scalp, to heal insect bites, remove freckles, clear up acne and pimples, and to deodorize underarms. It is also a popular home remedy for cough. In addition to these, homemakers are awed by its power to remove heavy stains on fabrics, and as a subsitute for any of the ways a lemon can clean the home. Benefits of Calamansi Warm lemon (local-calamansi) water serves as the perfect good morning drink, as it aids the digestive system and makes the process of eliminating the waste products from the body easier. It prevents the problem of constipation and diarrhea from taking place, by ensuring smooth bowel functions. Read further to explore information about hot lemon water benefits†¦ Calamansi is a vitamin C rich citrus fruit that enhances your beauty, by rejuvenating skin from within and thus bringing a glow on your face. One of the major health benefits of drinking lemon water is that it paves way for losing weight faster, thus acting as a great weight loss remedy. Lemon water flushes out body toxins and thus is extremely beneficial for the body. Calamansi, a fruit popular for its therapeutic properties, helps promote your immune system and thus, protects you from the clutches of most types of infections. It also plays the role of blood purifier. Lemon is a fabulous antiseptic bestowed on us by Mother Nature. Limewater juice works wonders for people having heart problem, owing to its high potassium content. So, make it a part of your daily routine to drink a glass of warm lemon water in the morning and then open your gateway to enjoy its health benefits. Egg whites Egg white is the common name for the clear liquid (also called the albumen or the glair/glaire) contained within an egg. In chickens it is formed from the layers of secretions of the anterior section of the hens oviduct during the passage of the egg. It forms around either fertilized or unfertilized egg yolks. The primary natural purpose of egg white is to protect the yolk and provide additional nutrition for the growth of the embryo (when fertilized). Egg white consists primarily of about 90% water into which is dissolved 10% proteins (including albumins, mucoproteins, and globulins). Unlike the yolk, which is high in lipids (fats), egg white contains almost no fat, and carbohydrate content is less than 1%. Egg whites contain just over 50% of the protein in the egg. Egg white has many uses in food (e. g. mousse) and also many other uses (e. g. in the preparation of vaccines such as those for influenza). Benefits of egg whites Egg whites have become very popular due to their high protein and low cholesterol content. Once a popular breakfast staple, the whole egg was shown to be high in cholesterol which made it a food to be avoided. It was for this reason that egg sales began to plummet. However, egg whites, once separated from the yolk, have very little cholesterol and one cup has twenty-six grams of protein. Since egg whites are so versatile, theyre used in all kinds of food dishes such as egg white omelets, breakfast sandwiches, and salads. By itself, the egg white has a very bland flavor which allows it to easily pick up the flavors of other foods such as peppers and onions. They also blend well and cook quickly. Once the health benefits of egg whites were discovered, egg sales returned to normal. Most consumers were unaware of the health benefits of egg whites until it was learned that it was the yolk that contained the cholesterol. Studies developed and other than being a good source of protein, egg whites were shown to also contain essential minerals including Potassium, Magnesium,Calcium, Phosphorus,Copper, Zinc and Iron. However, egg whites are a bit high in sodium (403 mg) so anyone with special sodium dietary restrictions should consult a physician before adding egg whites to their diet. The egg white is also a good source of riboflavin and selenium along with essential vitamins such as folate, B12, niacin betaine and choline. Considering the nutritional value of egg whites, especially their high protein content, egg whites are a healthy addition to your daily diet. Theyre easy to cook, versatile and are relatively inexpensive. Egg white is great as for tightening and toning skin. It works wonders for greasy skin as it helps shrink large pores on the skin surface thereby reducing excess sebum. Large pores are potential breeding grounds for bacteria that cause bulbous zits and cysts. Egg white also contains an ingredient known as lysozyme, an enzyme which is potent in eradicating acne-causing bacteria by digesting their cell walls. Egg white has been used in facemask recipes since ancient times, especially in Asia, to achieve beautiful radiant skin. You can use egg white alone in your mask or add in other powerful ingredients to provide more nourishing benefits to your skin. Pimples A pimple is a small pustule or papule. Pimples are small skin lesions or inflammations of the skin they are sebaceous glands (oil glands) which are infected with bacteria, swell up, and then fill up with pus. Inside the pore are sebaceous glands which produce sebum. When the outer layers of skin shed (as they do continuously), the dead skin cells left behind may become glued together by the sebum. This causes the blockage in the pore, especially when the skin becomes thicker at puberty. The sebaceous glands produce more sebum which builds up behind the blockage, and this sebum harbours various bacteria including the species Propionibacterium acnes, causing infection and inflammation. Acne Acne vulgaris (or simply acne) is a common human skin disease, characterized by areas of skin with seborrhea (scaly red skin), comedones(blackheads and whiteheads), papules (pinheads), nodules (large papules), pimples, and possibly scarring. Acne affects mostly skin with the densest population of sebaceous follicles; these areas include the face, the upper part of the chest, and the back. Severe acne is inflammatory, but acne can also manifest in noninflammatory forms. The lesions are caused by changes in pilosebaceous units, skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland, changes that require androgen stimulation. Acne occurs most commonly during adolescence, affecting an estimated 80-90% of teenagers in the Western world. Lower rates are reported in some rural societies. In adolescence, acne is usually caused by an increase in androgens such as testosterone, which occurs during puberty, regardless of sex. For most people, acne diminishes over time and tends to disappear — or at the very least decreases — by age 25. There is, however, no way to predict how long it will take to disappear entirely, and some individuals will carry this condition well into their thirties, forties, and beyond. Some of the large nodules were previously called cysts and the term nodulocystic has been used to describe severe cases of inflammatory acne. The cysts, or boils that accompany cystic acne, can appear on the buttocks, groin, and armpit area, and anywhere else where sweat collects in hair follicles and perspiration ducts. Cystic acne affects deeper skin tissue than does common acne. Aside from scarring, its main effects are psychological, such as reduced self-esteem and in very extreme cases, depression or suicide. One study has estimated the incidence of suicidal ideation in patients with acne as 7. 1%. Acne usually appears during adolescence, when people already tend to be most socially insecure. Early and aggressive treatment is therefore advocated by some to lessen the overall long-term impact to individuals. Chapter III METHODOLOGY Materials Used In this study, you will use Calamansi Fruit, the whites of one egg, a bowl, a teaspoon, soap, water and a dry face towel. Procedure First, prepare one teaspoon of calamansi extract and one teaspoon of egg whites. Next, wash the face with soap and water then pat dry. Apply the calamansi extract and leave it on for a good five (5) minutes. Rinse the calamansi off and pat dry. After it, Apply the egg whites for ten (10) minutes or until it hardens. Finally, rinse the egg whites and pat the face dry. Repeat this regime thrice a week. Chapter IV RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS Results After applying the egg whites and calamansi three times in a week, it was seen that within a week, the pimples and acne were starting to diminish. It was also seen that the mixure improved the user’s skin tone. It was proved that Calamansi (Citrofortunella microcarpa) and egg whites can be a useful tool in face treatment. Discussions Using these materials for a face mask is very effective because the Calamansi is very rich in Vitamin C and act with antioxidant properties that promote skin whitening, face treatment and anti-aging purposes. Furthermore, it has been widely used in many skin treatment regimes. It seems to have the ability to rinse off dead skin cells and give the skin a healthy glow. On the other hand, the protein content of the egg white is very effective in treating skin because its proteins have the ability to tighten pores and remove dead skin cells once rinsed. Chapter V SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS Summary It was studied that the Calamansi and egg white has skin care properties and can promote healthy, young skin. A teaspoon of both ingredients was applied to the face as a mask and was rinsed off. After a week of repeating the regime, it was seen that the ingredients have potential in skin care and face treatment. Conclusions After the study was done, it was found out and concluded that the Alternative Hypothesis, Calamansi fruits and egg whites are effective for face treatment, is correct and the null hypothesis wrong. Reccomendations For future improvements of this study, the researcher recommends to compare this regime to other commercial skin care procedures and products.

Goals of Punishment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Goals of Punishment - Essay Example Among these have been punishments aimed at shaming individuals into avoiding to commit crimes which they had committed before (Word, 2007). An example of these shaming punishments has been the requirement for first time DUI offenders to wear a yellow license plate when they are on suspension. This requirement has ensured that the rates of imprisonment for DUI offenders, which takes a huge chunk off state budgets, have been reduced. It has been found that this is the most cost effective way for the achievement of deterrence as well as the satisfaction for the demands of retribution. While this requirement had been legislated in the 1960s; it was rarely used until the state of Ohio declared it mandatory for all those found committing the DUI offense. One would say that this is a reasonable punishment because it achieves the goal of punishing the individual through being exposed to the public throughout his or her suspension period. The shame derived from this exposure ensures that the individual involved does not repeat the same offense. In fact, the fear of going through the same experience for a second time will act as deterrence from committing future offenses. This measure has seen a level of success in the last few years as seen through the reduction of the number of r estricted number plates from over 10000 in the first year of it implementation to 5270 a year later. In the New York area of Bronx, the most frequently used method of deterrence to crime is the stop and frisk method. This is the case where police officers stop anyone whom they suspect of having criminal intentions and searching them. Despite the good intentions that were intended when this practice was instituted, it has come to be extremely unpopular with the residents, especially those from minority groups. Statistics show that while African Americans only make up 23% of New Yorkers, they are the victims of 53% of the stop and

Human Recourses Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Human Recourses - Essay Example It is however important to note that the supervisors have a clearer role of overseeing the rest of the workers to make sure they are complying with their responsibilities. The supervisors report to the managers, which therefore mean that the manager has an overall task of ensuring that all the employees have played their part in ensuring that the company’s products and services meet the required quality and standards. 2-How do you protect the intellectual property of the organization and the employee? The property of the organization as well as that of the employees are registered with the United States Patent and Trade Mark Office (USPTO), which is the body charged with registration of designs, patents, and trademarks. Having registered with this body, these rights are administered by the United States Copyright Office of the Library of Congress. 3-How can you help the employee reach to top management level? In my organization, there is a hierarchical structure, which an empl oyee is supposed to follow when they want something to be addressed. Therefore, I will refer such an employee to my immediate supervisor, who will then decide how to refer them to the top management, but that will only happen if the supervisor cannot find a solution to their concern. 4-Does your company take risks? My company take very many risks, especially the financial risks. For example, there are so many programs that are invested in, which wield significant amounts of financial risks. What is important to the company is to carry out a feasibility test for any particular venture, and if it is identified that there is a possibility of being successful, the venture is implemented. However, not all ventures that are implemented emerge successful – some lead to loss of huge amounts of funds. Contrary, the company makes efforts to avoid taking risks on matters that can compromise employee wellbeing or health. For example, if it is established that a certain venture can expose employees to uncontrollable health risk, it is abandoned. 5-Should employees be punished for unhealthy lifestyle? I think punishing employees for unhealthy lifestyles is a retrogressive ways of addressing this problem, as it will only attract employee’s rebellion among other issues. Rather, there are other enlightened ways of helping the employees who experience unhealthy lifestyle. The most important solution is for the employers to device lifestyle policies, which can be used in promoting positive lifestyles and diseases management, a strategy that can also help reduce health-care spending. Disease management is a combination of strategies devised to curb cost of chronic conditions that require considerable changes in behaviour. The goal of this strategy is to curb repeated hospitalizations, avoid incidences of acute illnesses, and lower mortality risks. Therefore, any forward-looking organization should think of implementing such strategies rather than punishing the emplo yees for their unhealthy lifestyles. 6-How can drug abuse affect the job behavior? Drug abuse has a lot of unfavourable effects on job behaviour. When employees become addicted to drugs abuse, they tend to lose concentration on their job, perhaps because they want to find time to go and take drugs, because their addicted body system cannot function well without taking the drugs, because they have lost their confidence and they are suffering from low self esteem. Other impacts include frequent request of early

Virtuoso Teams Essay Example for Free

Virtuoso Teams Essay In a day-by-day shrinking world where new organizations are popping up like mushrooms on a wet forest floor, what can be the one factor that sets you apart from the rest? The common answers would be better technology, brilliant strategies, great work atmospheres and many other such options. While one can’t deny the importance of all this, isn’t it obvious that every business unit on the planet is aware of these factors and trying in their own way to improve upon them. In a world where complex and intricately-woven ideas generally sound â€Å"smarter† it is often a simple and honest idea that does the trick. While thinking of better ways of resource utilization and profit maximization, we often end up overlooking the most conveniently available resource available to us- the â€Å"human resource†. While human capital management and human resource development (HRD) may now sound like run-of-the-mill terms, companies can take these concepts beyond their conventional boundaries to chart new stories of success. â€Å"Virtuoso teams† are the call of the future. When big, discontinuous change is required, a different sort of team and leadership is needed. These Virtuoso Teams make the difference between real success and just achieving another modest result. What are these â€Å"virtuoso teams†? Are they the proverbial genies from an Arabian Nights story that can make all our problems disappear? Well, not quite so fantastic but somewhat equally efficient, these teams are an elite squad- Revolutionaries that are catalysts for big change. They are utterly unique in the ambitiousness of their goals, the intensity of their conversations, the degree of their esprit, and the extraordinary results they deliver. Not bound by the usual rules of the game, these teams comprising of brilliant individuals working together and yet always competing with one another are dynamic and charismatic in their approach. In a world where there is no dearth of talent or skill, the star achievers are no more content with their accomplishments. There is always a hunger for more. Self-actualization needs makes a majority of workers hop jobs in the search for better prospects. The talent-drain problem is one of the major causes of concern in all major companies. A great idea would be to group such star achievers in teams and put before them the toughest challenges whereby they can not only use their exceptional individual skills but also collaborate for doing something truly remarkable. Traditionalists criticize such teams branding them â€Å"too risky, too temperamental, too ego-centric, and too difficult to control†. But they forget an important fact, the innovators and change agents in today’s world are individuals with these very same characteristics. What if Mark Zuckerberg and his team of innovators had preferred â€Å"playing it safe† instead of charging ahead with their self-belief. The world never would have shrunk so close as it has through â€Å"FACEBOOK†. We may call people like Zuckerberg mavericks and temperamental even ego-centric but who can deny that feeding one’s ego is what actually keeps the crà ¨me-de-la-crà ¨me striving for continued excellence. Virtuoso Teams tell some of the most compelling and wide-ranging stories of remarkable team leadership ever assembled. These teams are intense and intimate. They assume that their customers are every bit as smart and sophisticated as they are, so they don’t cater to a stereotypical â€Å"average.† Leaders of virtuoso teams put a premium on great collaboration—and they’re not afraid to encourage creative confrontation to get it. Top companies are realizing that such teams not only engage some brilliant minds in realizing their true potential but help the company as a whole do much better. Other employees are motivated and work harder to be a part of this elite team, top management can delegate responsibilities to these teams and be sure of effective solutions and the team members have what they crave for most- jobs that challenge them to keep doing their best. The future of business enterprises can be defined through proper handling of these virtuoso teams.
